KUALA LUMPUR, 5 January 2023 — Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will organise a Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook(R&O) Seminar 2023 on 12 January 2023 to disseminate information regarding the performance of the Malaysian oil palm industry in 2022, market prospects and price outlook for 2023 as well as the latest market developments in the industry.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof will officiate the seminar, which is one of MPOB’s platforms to provide latest updates on the development of the oil palm industry.
Themed “Palm Oil: Seizing Opportunities Amidst Global Challenges”, the seminar will focus on the Malaysian oil palm industry performance for 2022, prospects for this year and global challenges on palm oil supply and demand. The seminar will also deliberate on the challenges and opportunities in developing the Indian sustainable oil palm plantation sector and the recent development in Thailand’s oil palm industry. In addition, market development in the Chinese food industry and its prospects for palm oil will also be discussed.
Nine papers which highlight on the performance of the oil palm industry for 2022, market prospects and outlook for 2023, as well as the development, challenges and opportunities in the palm oil sector will be presented at the seminar.
Director-General of MPOB Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Haji Ghulam Kadir will present a paper on the performance of the oil palm industry in 2022 and its prospects for 2023.
Oils and fats expert Dr. Julian McGill of LMC International Ltd will deliver a paper on the market prospects and price outlook of palm oil while Dr Sathia Varqa from Palm Oil Analytics will share his thoughts on the impact of global challenges on the palm oil supply and demand.
Another industry expert Fadhil Hasan of Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) will deliver a paper on the impact of the current Indonesian policy on the global palm oil supply.
Meanwhile, Senior Director of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia Arividya Arimuthu will present a paper on free trade agreements and their impact on enhancing palm oil export.
“The seminar will provide opportunities for the participants to update on the latest performance of the oil palm industry, strategies, challenges and market developments not only in Malaysia but around the globe,” said Ahmad Parveez.
