The Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC), happening from 17th to 19th October at the Imperial Hotel Kuching will be officiated and launched by Sarawak Premier, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abg. Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari . The Premier will also be delivering a conference speech during the opening of the conference and exhibition.
“With the theme ‘Sustainability & Resilience Through Smart Technology and Innovation, the 5th instalment of BIWWEC this year has been revamped and has grown substantially since its beginnings in 2011 and throughout the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. We are proud to be Sarawak’s only international congregation of water and wastewater experts and we look forward to working on active solutions and synergistic efforts to overcome challenges of water and wastewater needs in Borneo,” said Ir. Chang Kuet Shian, Director of Rural Water Supply Department of Sarawak and Organising Chairman of BIWWEC 2022.
“We are happy that our exhibition booths for this year are all sold out as we are expecting an estimated 300 local and international delegates at BIWWEC 2022” he further added.
Organised by The Malaysian Water Association (MWA) Sarawak Branch, the conference and exhibition will feature 30 Malaysian and international speakers and 40 exhibitors comprising professionals in the area of water, wastewater and relevant industries. Among the confirmed exhibitors joining BIWWEC 2022 are WEIDA, Empayar Setia, Exxor, Weidasar, AFC Valve, Pansar, Cipta Wawasan Maju and many more.
“The State Government has a goal to have 100% coverage of clean water for all the people of Sarawak. In fact, our recent data shows that we are only 16.4 per cent short of achieving full coverage of water supply for the whole state. We are implementing various programs in order to achieve this goal including the State Water Grid and the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (SAWAS) program. Whereas for wastewater management, the State is implementing a number of centralised wastewater management systems for the major cities and towns of Sarawak.” said The Honourable Datuk Hj. Julaihi Hj. Narawi, Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, at the event launch in May.
“BIWWEC 2022 serves as a platform to discuss and explore new innovations and technologies from local and international industry which can be customised to improve the water and wastewater system in Sarawak, both in the urban and rural areas,” added The Honourable Datuk Hj. Julaihi Hj. Narawi.
BIWWEC 2022 will feature a three-day conference programme with notable speakers, workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions, site tour programmes and more.
