KUALA LUMPUR, 5 October 2022 –National car maker Proton Holdings Bhd ended the third quarter of 2022 (Q3 2022) with another strong sales month that contributed to its best quarter of the year and helped it achieve a key sales milestone.
Proton sold a total of 14,872 units in September and recorded a cumulative year-to-date sales total of 102,353 units, a jump of 40.2% compared to the first nine months in 2021.
“It’s the fourth consecutive year the 100,000-unit barrier has been exceeded and by doing it last month, the achievement came two months earlier than in 2021,” said Deputy Chief Executive Officer Roslan Abdullah.
According to him, Proton’s Q3 performance was its best quarter of the year, coming in with 42,229 units for the previous three months.
“This was made possible by a combination of stability in our production numbers as well as the continued strong appeal of our models, especially for the 2022 Proton Saga and the Proton X50. Therefore, despite the poor start to the year, we are confident of achieving a fourth consecutive year of double-digit sales growth,” he said in a statement today.
Roslan said aside from concentrating on sales growth, the last quarter also saw Proton laying the groundwork for its future growth.
“The General Distributorship Agreement with smart sets us up to sell energy vehicles from the brand starting in 2023 while the formation of PRO-NET crystalises Proton’s commitment to developing and offering new energy vehicles in the future,” said Roslan.
Compared to its rivals, Proton remains second in the sales table with an estimated market share of 23.8% for the month of September. As a result, the year-to-date market share figure has exceeded 20% for the first time this year and currently sits at 20.1%.
Roslan said the Overall Total Industry Volume (TIV) for September is estimated to have receded to approximately 62,500 units, the fourth best total of the year as the Malaysian automotive market continues its march towards posting its best sales year.
